In 1891, Frederick Rindge, a wealthy businessman, purchased the land and fought to keep it private for many years. After his death, his widow, May Rindge, continued the fight, but eventually, sections of the land were opened to public access. In 1929, the Malibu Colony was developed, and Malibu slowly grew into the luxurious coastal city it is today, attracting celebrities, artists, and affluent individuals worldwide.
